Americhem Introduces nDryve: A PFAS-Free In-Melt Technology Platform For Functional Fibers
Cuyahoga Falls, OH (BUSINESS WIRE) - Americhem, Inc., a global provider of polymer solutions, today announced the launch of nDryve™, a PFAS-free in-melt technology platform for surface modification. nDryve™ is designed to provide durable, multi-liquid repellency against alcohol and other low-surface-energy liquids in fiber systems.
In light of increasing global regulation and the associated phase-out of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), manufacturers are under growing pressure to maintain barrier properties without fluorinated chemicals. nDryve™ was developed to address this trend and offers a PFAS-free in-melt alternative to conventional surface-applied treatments.
Designed for performance completely PFAS-free
PFAS, often referred to as "perennial chemicals," are increasingly subject to stricter regulations due to their persistence and potential impacts on the environment and human health. nDryve™ is integrated directly into the polymer during the melting process, embedding the surface-modifying functionality within the fiber matrix rather than relying on removable surface treatments.
This technology enables performance optimization at the material level:
- A reduction in the washing-up risk
- Independence from downstream post-processing steps
- Supporting consistent performance throughout the entire product lifecycle
The result is a durable multi-fluid repellency and stain resistance that is directly integrated into the fiber structure.
“Tightening global PFAS regulations are changing the way manufacturers evaluate technologies for barrier and surface performance,” said Matt Miklos, Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Marketing at Americhem. “nDryve™ offers a PFAS-free path that balances performance with new regulatory requirements.”
Designed for high-performance fiber applications
nDryve™ is implemented through application-specific formulations optimized for polyolefin and engineering fiber systems, including PP, PET, and PA6. It is suitable for demanding applications such as medical fibers, apparel, face masks, hygiene materials, textiles, carpets, and industrial protective fabrics—where durability, safety, and regulatory compliance are critical.
By integrating functionalities during the melting process, manufacturers can optimize their production while simultaneously reducing their dependence on post-treatment chemicals.
“The industry is currently undergoing a transformation towards integrated performance solutions at the material level,” Miklos added. “With nDryve™, we support this development by combining functional performance characteristics with PFAS-free design.”
