In 1988 the Takata Corporation purchased the business and it was renamed Highland Industries, Inc. Highland is headquartered in Greensboro, NC and operates three manufacturing plants and an R&D Technical Center.
The Takata Corporation is a global manufacturer with 22 plants and seven research centers located across North America, Europe and Asia. Founded in 1933 as a textile manufacturer, Takata has become a major supplier to the motor vehicle market.
Highland's largest plant is located in Cheraw, SC. This plant features state-of-the-art weaving, knitting, and finishing operations as well as a complete quality lab.
The Kernersville, NC plant is a modern coating facility. Six production lines apply aqueous or solvent-based coatings to a variety of knit and woven substrates. A seventh line produces PVC laminates for automotive applications. A showcase solvent recovery system and fabric testing laboratory complement the production operation. The Kernersville plant is A2LA accredited.
The Framingham, MA plant produces lightweight polyurethane laminates for air holding and other hi-tech barrier applications.
Highland achieved ISO - 9002 certification in 1996. This achievement confirmed Highland's commitment to quality and excellence in all areas of the business.
Highland's R&D Technical Center is responsible for advanced product development and technical support. Located in Greensboro, NC, the Center provides most ASTM and industry testing protocols and is A2LA accredited.
