Integrating Standard PC Cards
Sicomp IPCI-COM590, like every other I/O module, plugs into the IPCI backplane bus of the 19 in. computer. The adapter can accommodate up to four standard PCI cards. The PCI-to-PCI bridge integrated in the adapter decouples the IPCI backplane bus from the PCI cards. This ensures safe, reliable operation of the adapter in any slot. The slot plates on the PCI cards are bolted onto the front of the adapter so that they are flush with the 19 in. housing.
The adapter offers the machine builder several advantages. If small quantities make the development of special IPCIs or CPCIs uneconomical, the machine builder can now solve automation task using standard PCI cards. And in the design-in phase of IPCI or CPCI cards the builder can also use standard PCI modules in order to be able to begin the integration test as early as possible. The development of an IPCI or CPCI card can be done in parallel.
