Mitsubishi Chemical Completes New Plant in India

Mitsubishi Chemical Corp's pure terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in India was recently completed and has started running for an investment of an estimated 40 billion yen (US $363.63 million).

As the largest Indian project ever developed by Japanese petrochemical producers, Mitsubishi Chemical's new plant is capable of processing 350,000 tons a year of PTA, which is used to make polyester fibers and PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles.

With the new capacity, the major chemicals producer now estimates their annual PTA production capacity of 2.3 million tons globally, supporting the highest capacity in Asia.
