Owens Corning Acquires Conwed Designscape

Owens Corning announced its acquisition of Conwed Designscape, the volume leader in acoustic panels in North America. The acquisition of the Ladysmith, Wisconson-based company supports Owens Corning's position within the estimated $100 million North American fabric wall market.

Conwed primarily produces fabric-wrapped wall panels for improve sound quality in commercial and institutional settings. "Conwed's sales and production assets complement Owens Corning's marketing and R&D strengths-as well as our current acoustic products and systems offering-perfectly," said Wayne Power, general manager-Acoustic Systems Business, Owens Corning. "They also give Owens Corning's acoustic business an ideal platform to launch new acoustic systems and services-for both commercial and residential customers."

Conwed's wall panels, as well as its specialty ceiling and office furniture products, will continue to be sold under the Conwed Designscape name through its network of independent sales representatives.

Since launching its Acoustic Systems Business in January 1999, Owens Corning has taken a number of steps to increase its share of the acoustics market, which is estimated at $5 billion.
