Sterling Chemicals to Concentrate on Core Technical Products

Sterling Chemicals Inc. announced that it will withdraw from the traditional acrylic fiber commodity textile business.

All commodity textile categories will be eliminated from Sterling Fibers offerings. In the restructuring, the company has shifted its concentration on its core technologies and in technical performance advantage products including natural MicroSupreme, CFF, Conductrol, BioFresh and Weatherblock.

160 jobs in the Pace manufacturing facility will be affected by the move. The company will also close their North Carolina, New York, and New Jersey offices, in addition to their marketing function based in California. The Santa Rosa, FL, office will continue to operate at a reduced production and staffing level.

The withdrawl from the commodity fibers market will begin to impact customers over the next several months, however, Company officials indicated that Sterling will make every effort to provide a smooth transition.
