Tag-It Pacific, Inc. Launches Talon KidZip: Enhanced Child Safe Zipper Line
Woodland Hills, CA - Given 88 percent of deaths from airway obstruction involve children four-years-old and under1, Tag-It Pacific, Inc. announced recently the launch of Talon KidZip, a line of zippers designed and manufactured specifically to resist certain types of breakage and prevent young children from serious injury and death.
While some major retailers recently amended manufacturers' zipper safety requirements, many of today's typical zipper/pull combinations do not meet these standards and pose a potential choking hazard to young children, according to the company. Redesigned and crafted from reinforced materials, Talon KidZip zippers are considerably stronger and safer than the traditional small sized zipper typically used in children's garments. The zippers are manufactured with a special technique to withstand greater pull-off strengths.
While some retailers have recently set their zipper pull-off strength standards of 22 lbs, Talon KidZip zippers surpasses this standard substantially with a pull-off strength of up to 50 lbs. Talon KidZip meets and exceeds the toughest industry safety standards2 and will be available to manufacturers worldwide through Talon International, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tag-It Pacific, Inc. Talon KidZip's strength has been extensively tested and certified by three independent laboratories, including: Consumer Testing Laboratories, Intertek Testing Services and Bureau Veritas.
"Accidental injury is the leading cause of death in children and Tag-It is committed to providing products that can reduce the risk of harm in order to give parents peace of mind regarding their children's garment safety," said Stephen Forte, chief executive officer, Tag-It Pacific, Inc. "Manufacturers can also be certain that they are incorporating a durable solution into their clothing lines that exceeds the standards for protecting the safety of young children."
Some manufacturers' zipper pulls have been found to have higher than allowable lead content3, which can cause neurological damage, or behavior and learning problems. While more than 70 major U.S. retailers in California agreed earlier this year to stop selling children's jewelry containing lead, there are no national standards that protect children from lead risks involved with apparel zippers4. Tag-It has made a commitment to the elimination of lead for all of its zippers. Aside from being lead-free, Talon KidZip is also nickel-free, even though that is not yet a requirement for U.S. children's apparel, and all finishes and dyes are also free of hazardous chemicals. In addition, all production is done in units that are OEKO-TEX certified, indicating the product is free from harmful substances which could pose a health risk and ecologically friendly.
