Ticona names new chief operating officer

<%=company1%> has appointed Stefan Sommer to the position of Chief Operating Officer. As a member of Ticona's Executive Committee, Sommer will report to Edward Munoz, Ticona Chief Executive Officer and Celanese AG Board Member.

The Executive Committee will be made up of Company officials, including Munoz, Sommer, Ben Catanzaro, VP Business Development, and Klaus Goertz, Chief Financial Officer. In addition, Sommer will head Ticona's Operating Committee (OC) which includes the leaders of Ticona's business lines while overseeing other managerial operations.

Sommer joined Ticona's executive management team in 1999. In 2000, he became Executive Vice President responsible for the company's core and growth businesses as well as global marketing & sales. Previously, Sommer worked with Hoechst AG in their corporate strategies, and mergers and acquisitions group. Prior to that he was with management consulting company, Arthur D. Little, based in Munich, after working as product manager in the former chemicals division of Hoechst AG in 1988.

Ticona, the technical polymers business of Celanese AG, Frankfurt, produces and markets a broad range of engineering polymers. The company has an estimated 2,400 employees worldwide, with facilities research centers in the USA, Germany, the UK, and Brazil. Celanese employs about 13,900 people with 32 production plants in eight countries, mainly in North America, Europe and Asia.
