Todd Controls was started in June 1971 to serve the Carolina's as a distributor for pneumatic and hydraulic equipment for Industry. Todd Controls designed specialty machinery for various applications. In the mid seventies, Todd Controls started Adan Hydraulics as a manufacturer of low speed hydraulic motors. Tri-Flex, Ltd. (also started in the seventies) was a manufacturer/distributor of industrial hoses and fittings. Todd Controls had operations in Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Greenville and Raleigh.

By 1989 Todd had sold all distribution and manufacturing divisions to concentrate on the future of the business as a manufacturer of specialty equipment for the textile industry. Todd Motion Controls, or TMC as we are called today, saw a need for automation in the hosiery industry and designed the first horizontal boarding machine. TMC saw the need for packaging attachments for the boarding equipment and designed modules to pair, fold, print, stack and bag the socks automatically.

TMC has produced and delivered 100 units to the textile industry as of April 1998 and enjoys a good share of the market. Bill Todd met Bob Speizman in 1997 and agreed to sell TMC to Speizman Industries to increase the business and take TMC equipment worldwide. Speizman Industries brings a professional sales force, capital and vision for the future of TMC, Speizman Industries, and our customers.
