For 187 years, WestPoint Stevens Inc. (NYSE:WXS) has been creating products that help people bring comfort and style to their surroundings. Three textile giants of the past make up today's WestPoint Stevens: J.P. Stevens, Inc., founded in 1813, is the Company's oldest name. Pepperell Manufacturing Company Inc. founded in 1851 and West Point Manufacturing Company founded in 1880. In 1965, West Point and Pepperell merged to form WestPoint Pepperell. In 1988 J.P. Stevens, Inc. was acquired and the name was changed in 1992 to WestPoint Stevens Inc. WestPoint Stevens is today the nation's largest producer of bed and bath fashions sold in retail outlets worldwide.
